Meet Dr. Sweeney

A native of Nashville, TN, Dr. Sweeney earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Fisk University in Nashville in 1967. He then attended Meharry Medical College, also in Nashville, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1971. From 1971 to 1973, Dr. Sweeney served in the United States Air Force at David Grant Hospital, Travis AFB, CA. At the completion of his service, Dr. Sweeney began his private practice as an associate dentist with Dr. Henry Lucas in San Francisco, CA. In 1975, he joined what is now known as Oasis Dental, and has been here ever since. 

Dr. Sweeney has served his community in many ways, both professionally and personally.

  • Assistant Director of Dental Services, the West Oakland Health Center, Oakland Ca. 1974-1976
  • Volunteer Clinical Professor at the University of California School of Dentistry, San Francisco, CA. 2004-2006
  • Volunteer Clinical Professor at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, San Francisco, CA. 2006-2007
  • President and co-founder MacArthur Blvd. Merchants' Association 1992-1999
  • Board Member of Oakland Neighborhood Housing Service and Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee, 1990-1995
  • Oakland Shaving the Vision Task Force 1994-1995
  • Member of the Greater Bay Area Dental Society.
